M: Dàjiā hǎo. Huānyíng nǐmen shōutīng Xiànzài Xué Hànyǔ. Wǒ shì ManLi.

S: Wǒ shì Stuart. Today it's a fùxí kè. If you can handle the tension, we'll fùxí our tale of suspense. Listen, tīng, and repeat, chóngfù.

M: We will now read Chapters 1 thru 3.

S: On the tree is a little bird树上有一只小鸟 shù shàng yǒu yì zhī xiǎo niǎo.

M: On the table there is a cat 桌子上有一只猫 zhuōzi shàng yǒu yì zhī māo.

S: Under the chair are two big dogs 椅子下面有两只大狗 yǐzi xiàmian yǒu liǎng zhī dà gǒu.

M: The little bird sees a slice of bread, 那只小鸟看到了一块面包nà zhī xiǎo niǎo kàn dào le yī kuài miànbāo. It thinks, that bread must be good to eat, 它想，那块面包一定很好吃tā xiǎng, nàkuài miànbāo yídìng hěnhǎochī.

S: That cat sees the bird. It thinks, that little bird is good to eat. 那只猫看到了小鸟. 它想, 那只小鸟一定很好吃nà zhī māo kàn dào le xiǎo niǎo. Tā xiǎng, nà zhī xiǎoniǎo yídìng hěnhǎochī

M: 那两只大狗看到了那只猫。它们想，那只猫好玩儿 nà liǎng zhī dà gǒu kàn dào le nà zhī māo. Tāmen xiǎng, nà zhī māo hǎo wánr.

S: Suddenly, the cat jumped. 忽然，那只猫跳起来了 tūrán, nà zhī māo tiào qǐlái le.

M: At the same time, the little bird flew up. 同时，那只小鸟飞起来了 tóngshí, nà zhī xiǎo niǎo fēi qǐlái le.

M: Some useful stuff in those three chapters. Like the easiest way to say 'on the tree' 在树 zài shù shang.

S: Or 'on the table' 在桌子上 zài zhuōzi shang.

M: And for 'under the chair', we said 在椅子下面 zài yǐzi xiàmian. In these simple phrases we don't need to use the measure words. Remember that we usually use the measure word if we are referring to a specific thing, or a specific number.

S: For example, I see three trees 我看到了三棵树 wǒ kàn dào le sānkē shù.

M: And if 把 BA bǎ is the measure word for 椅子 chair yǐzi, how do we say, We have seven chairs? Méi cuò. 我们有七把椅子 wǒmen yòu qī bǎ yǐzi.

S: And now say, That bread is good to eat. Hěn hǎo. 那块面包好吃 hǎo chī good to eat，hǎo chī.

M: Now say, using 好看, I am really good looking. Duìle. 我非常好看 wǒ fēicháng hǎo kàn.

S: And, to end, that cat is really fun to play with. Duìle. 那只猫很好玩儿 nà zhī māo hěn hǎo wánr.

M: Xiànzài wǒmen xià kè. Zài jiàn.
